A ratcheting CVT employs a number of one-way clutches or ratchets that rectify and sum only "ahead" movement. The on-off characteristics of a normal ratchet means that many of these models are usually not continuous in operation (i.e. technically not a CVT), but in practice, there are many similarities in Procedure, in addition to a ratcheting CVT
